Who is the Auxiliary
Patriotism and veterans advocacy hold such profound significance for the American Legion Auxiliary that for an entire century, they have dedicated themselves to serving, educating, and supporting America's finest—the military.
The Auxiliary wholeheartedly respond to the call of "Service Not Self." Their ranks include male and female spouses, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and both direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion. Some among the group are veterans in thier own right.
Members proudly identify as the American Legion Auxiliary, and their actions truly make a difference. You will encounter us in over 8,000 local communities throughout the United States and even in foreign countries. Originating in 1919 during the inaugural National Convention of The American Legion, the ALA has flourished into one of the largest veterans support organizations.
