What does the Legion College Do?
The American Legion National College serves as an institution that enriches understanding and admiration of The American Legion. It imparts the fundamental principles and significant contributions of the organization, its Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion, and various affiliated programs. The National Legion College equips Legionnaires with the skills and knowledge needed for leadership roles within posts, districts, counties, and departments by means of education, personal growth, and motivation. The curriculum prompts student leaders to engage in critical and innovative thinking about the challenges that The American Legion faces.
The curriculum focuses on self-directed learning in small-group settings, overseen by experienced facilitators, staff members, contracted professional speakers, and national officers. Students delve into The American Legion's fundamental principles, brainstorm innovative concepts, and contemplate the organization's future. There is a strong emphasis on program development, effective management strategies, and leadership skills aimed at enhancing program visibility, expanding membership, and raising public awareness of The Legion and its affiliated groups.
