Oratorical Program
What does the Oratorical Program Do?
The Oratorical contest was primarily designed with the aim of nurturing a deeper understanding and reverence for the United States Constitution among high school students. Additional goals encompass the cultivation of leadership attributes, fostering the capacity to communicate and reason effectively, and preparing participants to embrace the responsibilities, rights, and privileges associated with American citizenship.
Furthermore, the program serves as a means to aid students in mitigating the substantial expenses associated with a college education. The Department of Pennsylvania American Legion bestows upon the first-place winner a $7,500 scholarship, a commemorative plaque, and an all-expenses-paid journey to the Pennsylvania American Legion State convention for the presentation of their winning oration. Additionally, the first-place winner gains the opportunity to represent Pennsylvania in the National and Regional Contests, with the chance to secure an additional $1,500 scholarship from the National Organization. The second-place recipient is awarded a $5,000 scholarship and a plaque, while the third-place winner is granted a $4,000 scholarship and a plaque.
